WWA Asian Wakesurf Series: A Premier Tour Uniting Asia’s Wakesurfing Community

An exhilarating four-stop tour throughout Asia is set to unite wakesurfing enthusiasts and crown champions in the skim and surf divisions across all ages and skill levels. Building upon the success of the WWA Asian Wake Series, the new WWA Asian Wakesurf Series promises to deliver an unforgettable experience with a renewed focus on wakesurfing and the great lifestyle that surrounds it.

The series aims to provide a thrilling platform for athletes to showcase their talents while fostering community engagement. After the temporary hiatus of the WWA Asian Wake Series (due to quarantine restrictions), this eagerly anticipated series revives the excitement of wake competitions across Asia.

The WWA Asian Wakesurf Series will feature the following events:

Japan Wakesurf Open presented by YANMAR – May 20-21, 2023

  1. The series kicks off with the highly anticipated Japan Wakesurf Open, presented by YANMAR. This event will set the stage for an action-packed series filled with remarkable talent, creativity, and camaraderie.

Taiwan Wake Open – September 1-3, 2023

  1. Returning as a staple event from the Asian Wake Tour, the Taiwan Wake Open will offer both wakeboard and wakesurf divisions. Athletes and spectators alike can anticipate thrilling performances as they witness the fusion of skill and style in this unforgettable event.

WWA Asian Championships Thailand Stop powered by Seadoo Thailand – September 30-October 1, 2023

  1. An esteemed highlight of the series, the WWA Asian Championships in Thailand will serve as a grand stage for the region’s top wakesurfing talents. This event will lake place at the Siam Boat Club.

MS Wakesurfing Hong Kong Competition – October 21-22, 2023

  1. The final stop of the WWA Asian Wakesurf Series, the MS Wakesurfing Hong Kong Competition, will bring the tour to a thrilling conclusion. Champions will be crowned, and the awe-inspiring performances throughout the series will be celebrated.

Beginner Wakeboard: 

Kickers: Frontside 180’s and Straight airs. NO inverts.

Air Tricks: Ollie frontside 180 and butters/surface spins (surface 360 allowed) NO air tricks.

Rails: NO Transfers (Transfer = greater than 2 foot step up from the side of a rail)

Novice Wakeboard:

Kickers: 360 spins MAX. Basic inverts (NO blind or handle pass inverts)

MALIBU BOATS WWA RIDER EXPERIENCE WEST RETURNS TO HURRICANE, UT JUNE 2nd & 3rd

Hosted by Taylor’s Boats, the third stop of the 2023 Malibu Boats WWA Rider Experience series returns to Quail Creek Reservoir in Hurricane, Utah June 2nd and 3rd. Amateur riders from across the U.S. are invited to come together for the world’s premier amateur development five-stop series for weekends focused on the next generation in wake through family-friendly instruction and competition. 

Kicking off with Freeride Friday, riders of all skill levels will receive an opportunity to ride, familiarize themselves with the course and receive tips from Malibu’s Pro athletes on Quail Creek Reservoir. Participants will also have the chance to demo the latest equipment and models in the Malibu Boats line. On Saturday the fun will continue with the WWA Regional Championships and Pro Card Qualifiers, giving amateur riders the chance to compete with riders in their region and qualify for the WWA Wakeboard National Championships and aspiring pros the opportunity to earn professional status.

WWA ANNOUNCES ALL DISCIPLINE FLORIDA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

NAUTIQUE WWA FLORIDA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS PRESENTED BY NAUTIQUE’S OF ORLANDO

All-New, three-day festival to offer all wake disciplines for all skill levels 

Nautique Boats and The World Wake Association are proud to announce the inaugural Florida State Championships for riders in all wake sports including all ages and skill levels to compete and have fun together on June 16-18, 2023 in Auburndale, Florida. 

“As with most of WWA’s new endeavors, this event is the start of something big for wake sports all over the country,” said Shannon Starling, president of the WWA. “We look forward to growing this program to other states. Enthusiasts outside of Florida are welcome to join and compete at the Florida State Championships and use this premiere event as the blueprint to replicate.”

This event is part of The Sunshine State Games which is an Olympic-style festival program created throughout Florida for amateur athletes and has hosted over 30 different sports and 200,000 participants since 1980. Many have gone on to fulfill Olympic dreams and championship glory. Thousands more have achieved personal goals and victories. They all have been a part of a great Florida tradition of amateur competition that symbolizes the true spirit of Olympic-style sports.

REGISTER NOW FOR THE NAUTIQUE MASTERS VIRTUAL LCQ

HOW IT WORKS

  •  Participants will record an unedited 4 trick, 30-40 second pass and upload the video to your Instagram account (tag: @TheWWA and #MastersWakeLCQ) by April 15th, 2023. The video may not be video that has been previously submitted in the virtual LCQ and must be footage from the current calendar year. Any footage filmed outside of this calendar year is subject to disqualification.
  • The winners will be announced on May 1st, 2023.
  • Participants may only submit one video, so perfect your contest pass before uploading.
  • The videos will be judged according to WWA rules by a WWA World Series judging panel.
  • The top riders in each division will receive an invite to compete at the Nautique Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament on May 26th-28th.
  • All Masters LCQ participants will be awarded points to the WWA Wakeboard World Series and/or the Nautique Wake Series overall points race.

CONTEST VIDEO GUIDELINES

  • Juniors divisions will have an entry fee of $100.
  • Junior Men’s and Junior Women’s divisions are open to riders with a current WWA Annual membership under the age of 18. (All ages are as of January 1st  2023).
  • Pro divisions will have an entry fee of $150.
  • Pro Men’s and Pro Women’s riders must hold a current WWA Pro Membership.
  • Your video must show one unedited, 4 trick line in 30-40 seconds shot from the towboat.
  • Please refrain from having music in your video.
  • The rider must remain in the frame throughout the duration of the video.
  • Videos may be shot horizontal or in Reels vertical format.
  • There are no minimum video resolution restrictions, but all tricks, including grabs, must be seen clearly in order to be judged properly.
  • You will not be judged on the quality of your video production, but on your tricks according to the current WWA judging criteria, which can be found HERE.

HOW TO ENTER

  • Download the WWA Rideline App (available FREE on iOS, Android and Google devices) and create an account.
  • Register for the event under the events tab. There is no rider cap for the Masters LCQ.
  • Record your unedited 4 trick, 30-40 second competition pass.
  • You have until April 15th, 2023 to complete your video so take as many attempts as you need to perfect your pass.
  • Upload your video to your Instagram feed and tag @TheWWA and #MastersWakeLCQ

Assumption of Risk: All participants hereby agree that they are ASSUMING THE RISK and that WWA has no responsibility for any injury in consequence of training for or developing their passes.  

There is a minimum of one spot per division available for each division. In the event that any other spots are available after invites are confirmed, more riders will qualify into the event via the LCQ.

2023 Nautique WWA Wake Park National Championships Presented by GM Marine to Head to Terminus Wake Park 

(February 1st, 2023)–  The World Wake Association (WWA) and Nautique Boat Company announce the 2023 Nautique WWA Wake Park National Championships presented by GM Marine will head to Terminus Wake Park in Cartersville, GA October 5th-8th.  This action-packed event will feature the top professional wake park riders in the world along with all WWA amateur divisions competing in both Features Only and Traditional Cable disciplines.

The Nautique WWA Wake Park National Championships event will serve as the final stop of the 2023 WWA Wake Park Points Chase Series. Each season, wake parks across the U.S. host a local series of events to qualify riders to compete for team and individual national titles. Amateur riders must place within the top of their division through their local wake park series to qualify.

MALIBU BOATS AND THE WWA ANNOUNCE THE ELEVENTH SEASON OF THE RIDER EXPERIENCE SERIES

LAKE ALFRED, FL (January 30th, 2023) – The World Wake Association (WWA) and Malibu Boats are excited to announce the return of the world’s premier amateur development event series with five stops of action for the 2023 Rider Experience Series. Participants will experience a top-notch weekend in wake through family-friendly instruction, education, and approachable competition open to all interested. The WWA and Malibu are excited to continue to showcase the sport’s new and growing talent and continue the sport’s exponential growth as the Rider Experience series heads into its eleventh season. 

“The Malibu Rider Experience series is where it all begins for so many new riders each season,” said WWA President Shannon Starling “whether it’s learning to get up on a board or entering their first contest, so many riders find community and a new passion through this series. We look forward to being a part of that alongside Malibu Boats.”

Since 2013 the Malibu Rider Experience has hosted thousands of riders, from first timers to those making the transition from amateur to pro, while building local and national wake communities that fully encompass the spectrum of the sport. The highlight of each WWA Regional Championship event will be Jr. Pro Women and Men’s divisions. These young, up-and-coming riders will compete at each stop of the series for a piece of the $20,000 in travel scholarships towards the WWA Wakeboard National Championships for the top overall series finishers in each division. 

Each weekend will kick off with ‘Shreddin’ Saturdays’ featuring freeriding for wakeboarding, wakesurfing, and foiling behind the Malibu Boats Wakesetter 25 LSV and other models, all featuring Surf Gate® and Power Wedge™ III technology. Participants can also take advantage of instruction from Malibu’s Pro Team of athletesand a Judge’s Experience to learn more about wakesports competition and judging. This fully inclusive day of all things wake will allow the entire family, friends, and neighbors alike to familiarize themselves with the course, receive tips on the water and in the boat, and test out the industry’s latest products, all while hanging out lakeside. The WWA Regional Championship will be held on the Sunday of each event, giving amateur riders a chance to have fun on the water and compete against riders in their region as well as qualify for the WWA Wakeboard National Championships. 

The series’ final stop will finish in the eastern region in Smithville, TN, for the Rider Experience East in conjunction with Tennessee Wakefest. The top finishers from each region in all divisions will receive special invites to compete at Wakefest, which will serve as the grand finale of the 2023 Rider Experience series.

JOHN DREILING NAMED DIRECTOR OF WAKE PARK OPERATIONS

LAKE ALFRED, Fla. (January 23, 2023) – The World Wake Association (WWA) today announced the addition of John Dreiling to the team in a newly created position of Director of Wake Park Operations. 
This new role is part of a larger mission to put directors in place for each individual discipline under the WWA’s umbrella. These directors will be highly experienced in each of their fields and will address the specific needs of each sport.

“John has been a longtime competitor of the WWA,” said Shannon Starling, WWA President. “He is also poised to become a tremendous asset to the sport. John’s passion and experience in all aspects of wake park make him a perfect fit for this new role.”  

As the Director of Wake Park Operations, Dreiling will focus on event production aspects for the WWA’s wake park properties as well as focus on selling and developing new wake park events around the world. “In recent years, I’ve watched John get involved in all aspects of the sport to help where he can because he truly wants to see the sport grow and be the best that it can be” said WWA Executive Director, Corrie Wilson “John has helped with our Wake Park events over the past few years but I’m really excited to have him officially a part of the team as we continue to grow our Wake Park division around the world.”

“I’m truly honored that the WWA is trusting me to produce and develop new wake park events and series around the world.” said Dreiling, “With the WWA’s experience in running events for over 30 years, my experience as a competitor for the last 10 years, and our collective passion for growing the sport, I believe we have tremendous synergy and I’m very excited for the future of wake park events.”

Dreiling assumed the role January 1st of 2023 and has already played an integral role in updating and developing programs that are in line with the WWA’s mission to grow wakesports.  Named Alliance Rider of the year in 2021, he also represents Wakeparx, Sesitec, Unit Parktech, and more. John also gives back to the sport by coaching young riders and by hosting his own hosting his own boat contest, the Mini Wake Invitational.
