2021 Georgia Wake Series is Back

Atlanta, Georgia (Tuesday, April 27, 2021) – Action Event Group, LLC is thrilled to announce an improved Georgia Wake Series presented by WaterSports Central and Buywake.com! With revised classes, an updated purse and prizes, and all-new towboats, the 2021 season aims to create an even better platform for all wakeboarders, men and women, from beginner to pro. With two boat and two cable stops, the 2021 Georgia Wake Series continues to deliver the most balanced grassroots series with superb locations, big prizes, and riding formats designed to welcome new competitors and encourage well-rounded rider progression.
The 2021 Series features a revised class list, with Women’s Advanced being one of the most notable additions. Other changes include allowing an extra fall for the beginner boat divisions to support new competitors. Series director Brandon Lee said, “Looking at how the improved boat wakes like those of the G23 have helped accelerate rider progression, we felt it was time to re-scale some of the tricks on the boat side. With the addition of the Women’s Advanced division, we are excited to give our ripping ladies an additional platform to compete on! And with a Series Overall cash purse equal to the Men’s Advanced Division Overall courtesy of Buywake.com, we expect to see some heavy competition there!”
As mentioned, long-time grassroots supporter Buywake.com has again stepped up with a hefty investment of gift cards and cash for Series overall finalists in all divisions. Buywake.com’s Lee Elliott said “Grassroots wakeboard events are essential to a thriving wakeboard culture. Contests like these are proving grounds for tomorrow’s pro wakeboarders…and no one does it better than the Georgia Wake Series. Brandon and his team create a true Pro Tour type environment and make each stop of the Georgia Wake Series an incredible experience for the riders and everyone involved.” Beginner through Intermediate Series finalists will receive Buywake.com gift cards while both the Men’s and Women’s Advanced divisions will receive equal cash payouts! Finally, the Open division will provide a lucrative cash purse for the top three overall riders in the state! With a total value of $7,250 between cash and gift cards, the Georgia Wake Series continues to lead the way in awards for grassroots wakeboard tournaments.
The ever-popular Terminus Wake Park and Valdosta Wake Compound play host to the cable portion of the Series, book-ended by Lake Spivey and Lake Acworth, each bringing their unique flair. For 2021, WaterSports Central and Nautique Boats are proud to debut the all-new G23 and G23 Paragon as the official towboats of the Georgia Wake Series. The WaterSports Central G23 will pull Beginner-Intermediate divisions while the Hyperlite G23 Paragon will look to send Advanced and Open riders into orbit!
Registration is now open for all stops of the 2021 Georgia Wake Series. For more information on how to register, classes, event info, and more visit www.gawakeseries.com.

Malibu Rider Experience Series Kicks Off 9th Season in St. George, Utah

St. George, Utah (April 26, 2021) – Hosted by Taylor’s Boats, the wake community gathered at Quail Creek Reservoir for the first stop of the 2021 Malibu Boats Rider Experience.  The early-season chill in the water couldn’t stop competitors from coming out and strutting their stuff in wakeboarding and wakesurfing behind the Malibu Wakesetter series boats.

Friday morning kicked-off Freeride Friday for the weekend with riders of all ages and skill levels practicing their runs behind the brand new 2021 Malibu M220 and receiving coaching from the amazing team of Malibu and Axis Pro Riders. Jeff Langley, Luca Kidd, Guenther Oka, and Stacia Bank were all in attendance as they helped the next generation of riders reach their full potential on the water.

Saturday marked the start of the Malibu WWA Regional Championships West. With 18 different divisions of both wakeboarders and wakesurfers, every age, skill level, and gender was represented.  “We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the 2021 competitions season than what we had this weekend” said WWA Executive Director Corrie Wilson “This event encompassed riding of all types and is truly what these events are all about.”  Competitors joined us from all over the West region: from the youngest competitor, 5 year old Hadley Sabian, to the talented Veteran division, from the 5 members of the McInnes family who rode in their very first contest, to the Jr. Pro riders who have entered more contests than they can remember; the Malibu Rider Experience truly offers something for everyone.

In addition to the amateur riders, the Malibu Jr. Pro Series has always been the most prestigious contest series for the Jr. Pro division, and in 2021 Malibu Boats raised the bar even higher!  This year marks the first time Jr. Pro Women joined the Jr. Pro Men for the Malibu Rider Experience Jr. Pro Series.  Throughout the season, these Jr. Pro riders will be collecting points for a chance to be included in the $20,000 of travel scholarships for the top 5 riders after the 5 events of the season. Per usual, the field of Jr. Pro competitors was stacked with talent and it was anyone’s guess as to who would take the first win of the 2021 season.
Battling though tough semi-final heats, the finals would see the Patrick sisters (Ellie and Alexie), Payton Gross, and Kira Lewis on the Jr. Pro Women’s side and Cody Hunnicut, Jaden Reichl, Alex Albin, and Jamie Huser on the Jr. Pro Men’s side.  For the Jr. Pro Women, Kira Lewis (FL) stood above the rest as she landed a run filled with a variety of inverted tricks and spins that gave her enough points to take the win, followed by Payton Gross (NC) and Alexie Patrick (TX) in 2nd and 3rd respectively.  And the Jr. Pro Men saw Jamie Huser (SUI) take the win with impressive moves like his dum-dum, toeside backroll to blind, and a heelside 720.  Alex Albin (CA) and Jaden Reichl (OK) rounded out the podium in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The Malibu Rider Experience events represent what the wake industry is all about: hanging-out, having fun, and progressing the level of everyone’s abilities.  From riders who were entering their very first contest ever, like Mark McEnroe who entered in the newly formed “Wake Surf Dads” division and placed 2nd among the other fathers; to the familiar faces of the WWA events like Hudson Haynie who grabbed himself another WWA West Regional Championship title to add to his growing trophy room, everyone had an absolute blast from start to finish!

As the 5-part series continues, the Malibu Rider Experience moves to Ft. Worth, Texas next month as they host the Malibu Rider Experience Central on May 15-16.  We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new riders throughout the 2021 season!

WWA Event Social Distancing Plan – Malibu Rider Experience West 2021

WWA Social Distancing Guidelines

The WWA is implementing social distancing guidelines effective at all WWA produced events in an effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in our communities.  Events are only possible if we all maintain the federal, CDC, state and local guidelines. We appreciate everyone doing their part so our events are able to operate and do not get shut down.

Overview

The WWA will adhere to and operate in compliance with all public health authorities and local and state government guidelines regarding social distancing pertinent to the location of the event being held. In adhering to compliant efforts onsite, event crowd numbers will not exceed the guidelines currently set forth. The WWA will provide masks to all event participants and advise that any event bystanders are wearing masks when electing to be in the vicinity of the event grounds and will be strictly advised to not congregate in large groups.

High-risk individuals, including older adults and people with pre-existing medical conditions that appear to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill with the virus are recommended to avoid events involving groups at this time and/or to take all recommended precautions to protect themselves.

Event Procedures

  • All WWA staff will be required to wear face-masks throughout the duration of the event
  • The starting dock will be limited to ONE participant and the dock starter in order to avoid unnecessary congregations of people. There will also be ‘staging’ areas outside of the dock that only a limited number of riders will be allowed in. Riders 9 & under may have one parent with a face covering accompany them on a dock. Participants should be aware of signage stating the number of individuals allowed in areas.
  • Participants will not be able to store their equipment in the start dock area and are advised to keep equipment with them or in their locked vehicle at all times.
  • Only event staff will be allowed in the event boats during the contest.
  • All WWA staff will monitor and enforce social distancing policies throughout the duration of the event.
  • All event surfaces and high-touch areas will be wiped down and disinfected approximately every thirty minutes as recommended by CDC guidelines.
  • Line distancing will be implemented in the registration and information area of the event in order to prevent grouping of participants.
  • In order to avoid extended face-to-face interaction between event participants and staff, participants must complete all necessary event and registration paperwork prior to arriving to the event site and attempting to check-in at the registration area.
  • During Freeride Friday, we will be limited demo groups on the boat to one family at a time unless explicitly requested by the participant.
  • All event participants are advised to avoid person-to-person contact such as shaking hands.
  • All event participants will be advised to not congregate in large groups of people to socialize while at the event site.

  • Spectators and participants will not be allowed to congregate under WWA tents. Participants are encouraged to bring their own tents or umbrellas for shade.

Improve through WWA Competition

An Estimated 80% of the population has never entered a competition. Never taken the court, joined their team on the field or even lined up on a starting line. More than just winning or losing, missed are the opportunities to learn about personal strengths, gain insight on navigating challenges and set examples for others to admire and follow.

“I truly believe that competition makes you better at everything else you do in life” said WWA Executive Director Corrie Wilson “Whether it be the preparation and hard work leading up to competition day, the decisions that are made during a contest or the lessons learned after, there is so much to be gained from challenging yourself in a competitive setting. This doesn’t just apply to the best of the best; this applies to anyone who sets a goal and puts in the work to achieve it.”

Life is a competitive process in virtually all aspects. Whether it be at home, school, or the workplace, competition is at the foundation of how we function in society. In sports, just like in life, those who are prepared are going to enjoy the spoils of success.
  • WWA events are an excellent way to hone valuable skillsets and apply them to life. Here are just a few of the benefits to come from competing:
    • Preparing for an event forces you to face your weaknesses
    • Build self confidence and mental toughness
    • Competing challenges your limiting beliefs
    • Competing challenges you to adapt to new environments and situation s
    • Setting goals and a path to achieve them
    • Not everyone can win all the time, so competition also teaches us humility and how to deal with defeat
    • Competition challenges us in ways we wouldn’t normally challenge ourselves

#GoRideGoCompete

Competing as an individual has its many benefits but doing so as a family creates unique opportunities for everyone involved. Participating in WWA events gives the entire family a shared experience that will ultimately strengthen bonds and bring everyone in the family closer together.
“Competing with the WWA is something my whole family has fun with. You’re not just another parent, sitting in the sun and waiting for your rider to have their fun. You’re supporting your kids and they learn and return the support for you. You’re around families of a similar interests you’re creating new connections and valuable friendships. Even before the competition, family bonds are being strengthened by practicing together, pushing one another to learn a new move and celebrating the successes together. It’s simply good, all around family fun!”
David Williams, Wakesurfing World Champion and proud husband/parent to three WWA competitors
We’ve added two new divisions to wakesurf events for the 2021 season, “Surfin’ Moms” & “Surfin’ Dads” Wakesurf Divisions!

This is your summer to #GoRideGoCompete with the WWA

WWA Events: There’s Something for Everyone!

Now more than ever, WWA events are offering something for the whole family! Unlike “drop and go” sports where parents are often relegated to the sidelines, WWA events offer fun on the water for everyone, no matter where you’re at in your wake journey. Whether you enjoy wakeboarding, wakeskating or wakesurfing, the WWA has a division for you get on the water and to #CompeteInWake!

While competing in WWA events, your family will be surrounded by individuals who love wake as much as you do.  Meaningful experiences are created through competition for children and adults alike: kids are encouraged to be their best during events while parents have the opportunity to compete for themselves to show their kids what they’re made of. Whether sharing riding stories or exchanging tips on how to execute a new move, riders will learn how to hone their skills and perform under pressure in a competitive environment!

If your family already loves being on the water, WWA events are the perfect opportunity to take that love to the next level. We look forward to helping you find an event close by with a division that is the right fit for each rider in the family. The WWA truly has something for everyone!

#GoRideGoCompete

“We love participating in WWA events. There is always an element of camaraderie and support evident throughout all the divisions. It’s fun watching your kids challenge themselves to be successful in competition and parents can also share in this experience in an appropriate event as well.  Whether it’s a local event close by, to an international event half way around the globe, it introduced my family to new places and experiences that are immeasurable and unforgettable . “

-Rob Lewis, father of Jr Pro Women’s rider Kira Lewis, Boys division rider Cooper Lewis and a WWA competitor himself
