MEAGAN ETHELL AND HARLEY CLIFFORD CROWNED CHAMPIONS ON THE FINAL DAY OF THE 59TH NAUTIQUE MASTERS

PINE MOUNTAIN, GA (May 28, 2016) – The 59th Nautique Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament® presented by GM Marine Engine Technology on Robin Lake at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia was filled with amazing moments on the water for the final day of competition. New Masters champions were crowned behind the 5x Wakeboard and 4x Wakesurf Boat of the Year, the Super Air Nautique G23.

The action kicked off with Pro Men’s Wakeskate. Defending Masters Champion Brian Grubb (USA) set the bar high to kick off the finals with a score of 75.67. Up next was Coco Mendez (USA) scoring an 80.00 and landing the first ever wake to wake hard flip in a competition. Reed Hansen took the win scoring 85.00 with a solid run of wake to wake tech tricks and spins.

Pro Women took the water next for an exciting Finals. Nautique rider Meagan Ethell (USA) won her fifth Masters title with an impressive score of 93.67 landing a moby dick, KGB, and stylish wrapped H/S B/S mute 540. Taking 2nd place was Nicola Butler (USA) who stuck a clean H/S roll to blind to score an 89.33. Third place went to Nautique athlete Erika Lang (USA) who stood out with her proper H/S nose grab front flip for 80.67 points.

“The 59th Nautique Masters was all time!” stated Ethell. “The weather turned out to be awesome, the Nautique G23 wake was amazing, and the riding was insane! I’m stoked to take my first win of the season here at Callaway Gardens. I cannot wait until next year!”

The Nautique Masters scores shook up the Wakeboard World Series (WBWS) Women’s rankings moving Bulter into first place, followed by Ethell, and fellow Nautique rider Zahra Kell (USA).

The Aussies swept the podium in Pro Men’s Wakeboard with Masters record holder Harley Clifford (AUS) taking the win with back to back double flips for a 97.87. Nic Rapa (AUS) came in just under Clifford with a score of 95.33 landing three 900’s and two double flips. In third was Nautique rider Tony Iacconi who went huge with his T/S double backroll to score 87.67.

After taking gold at the Nautique Masters, Clifford moved back into first place on the WBWS, bumping Corey Teunissen (AUS) into second, followed by Nautique rider Mike Dowdy (USA) in third.

An invitation to compete in the Masters is universally considered an acknowledgment of achievement for reaching the pinnacle in a given watersports discipline.

Not to be outdone, Pro Men’s Wakeboard battled it out narrowing the field from ten riders to four who will compete Sunday in the Final round. Harley Clifford (AUS), put the pressure on with a clean run of 900’s, mobe 5’s and double flips to score 90.67, edging out Nautique team rider Mike Dowdy (USA) by only 1 point in the first heat. Dowdy stood up two passes scoring 80.67 to join Clifford in the Finals Sunday.
