Stop Seven of the WWA Wakeboard World Series Takes On the Danube River September 1-3 for the Malibu Vienna Pro Presented by Rockstar Energy

Stop seven of the WWA Wakeboard World Series (WBWS) takes on the Danube River September 1-3 for the Malibu Vienna Pro presented by Rockstar Energy. For the first time in history, Austria will host the world’s best wakeboarders and wakesurfers as the Malibu Evolution Pro Series brings it’sinternational campaign to one of Europe’s most amazing cities. The Danube flows through ten countries, more than any other river in the world, serving as one of Europe’s most important waterways. Riders will lean on their experience, factoring the current into their pass strategy.

The Malibu Vienna Pro is sure to shake up the WBWS rankings with a diverse field of competitors posing a serious threat to the current top five going into the final two events. Raph Derome returns to competition for the second time this season after a solid showing early in the year, placing third at the Malibu Factory Smoky Mountain Pro. Drawing Raph in an early round is dangerous territory for riders remaining within reach of the overall WBWS podium. In the Pro Women’s division, a shuffle of riders competing here in Vienna could prove to narrow the gap between where Meagan Ethell and Nicola Butler currently sit in the rankings, giving them a more likely shot at the overall podium.

Stop two of the Malibu Wake Series, this event includes Pro Men and Pro Wakesurf divisions behind the massive wave of the Malibu M235. Top riders from all over the world are making the trip to Vienna to step on to the world stage of wake, with the hope of walking away with the Malibu Vienna Pro title.

The action all starts tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. CEST. Stay tuned to the World Wake Association on Facebook and Instagram (@thewwa) for updates throughout the weekend along with heat-by-heat scoring on Twitter (@thewwa).

Harley Clifford and Meagan Ethell Rise to the Occasion at Stop Six of the WWA Wakeboard World Series; the Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships

The Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships delivered in a big way with Harley Clifford and Meagan Ethell rising to the occasion to dominate the competition for stop six of the WWA Wakeboard World Series (WBWS). Glassy conditions all week saw some epic riding through Sunday, where the world’s best would have to fight through a windblown course during the final round.

Meagan Ethell unleashed the most progressive contest run in women’s wakeboarding once again with a perfect blend of stylish spins and mobes. The Pro Women’s division as a whole has stepped it up this season with another level of tricks and consistency. Jamie Lopina remains in the lead on the WWA Wakeboard World Standings with 340 points followed closely by Taylor McCullough in second with 320. Raimi Rutledge is sitting in third after her second place finish at Worlds with 315 points followed by Tarah Mikacich in fourth with 290. Although she has won the last two WBWS events this season, Meagan Ethell is currently in fifth place overall. Missing out on the first two events of the season while still recovering from injury, Meagan looks to move into the top three during the last two events of the season with a glimmer of hope at the top spot. Sixth place Nicola Butler is in a similar situation with 270 points heading into the next event with a first, second, and third at the only WBWS contests she’s ridden in this season. Keep your eye on the battle between Butler and Ethell as we finish out the 2017 season.

Furthering his lead with a near flawless run at World’s, Harley Clifford is still within striking distance of the WBWS top five with 510 points. Nic Rapa remains in second with 485 points and has maintained the momentum he started in Brazil with amazing riding that has kept him in the final rounds and on the podium. Currently in third with 455 points, Cory Teunissen needs to stay strong in the last two events of the season to maintain his spot on the overall podium and have any chance at the overall win. Mike Dowdy moved into fourth place this past weekend after Noah Flegel was taken out in the semifinal. At 440 points, Dowdy has shown he is capable of the win at every event and needs big finishes at the final two to move into overall podium territory. All hope is not lost for Flegel, who is now in fifth place with 431 points. Look for him to unleash everything he’s got in the remaining events as the drama continues to unfold on the 2017 WWA Wakeboard World Series.

HARLEY CLIFFORD WINS THE 2017 NAUTIQUE WWA WAKEBOARD WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS PRESENTED BY ROCKSTAR ENERGY

Toronto, Ontario, Canada (August 27, 2017) – 4X Wakeboard and 3X Wakesurf boat of the year, the Super Air Nautique G23 pulled greatness in the final day of competition at the 2017 Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Championships. Riders continue to find the extra edge they’re looking for at every Nautique Wake Series event and today’s competition was filled with amazing moments. With World titles and Nautique Wake Series overall titles on the line, everything came down to today.

Harley Clifford (AUS) was flawless this afternoon, proving that under pressure and in tough conditions, he has everything it takes and then some. Two stand-up passes that included two double flips, two 900’s, and a front mobe 540 captured Harley the 2017 World title with a score of 98.33. In second, Nic Rapa (AUS) pulled out all the stops, landing a double half cab roll, and a double T/S backroll to score 92.00. Nautique athlete Mike Dowdy (USA) placed third with 85.00 points after crushing his run, landing a moby dick, two double flips and a cab 900.

Harley Clifford also took home the 2017 Nautique Wake Series overall title with three first place and two second place finishes this season. 2017 has been the most competitive year in the history of our sport, with athletes performing at a level that made each event anyone’s game. Riders were forced to continue bringing new tricks to every event in an attempt to keep up with wakeboarding’s rapid progression.

“It’s been a crazy year with everyone pushing each other. You can’t let your guard down for a second with these guys throwing down every heat. I’m really grateful to take the World title and overall Nautique Wake Series win. All the boys killed it this year and the level of wakeboarding is insane right now at every contest. Thank you to everyone who worked hard all year to make these events happen,” said 2017 Nautique WWA Wakeboard World Champion Harley Clifford.

Guenther Oka (USA) put down an 84.33 to take the Jr. Pro Men’s World title with regular and switch Pete’s along with a wrapped B/S 720. Patricio Gonzalez (MEX) placed second scoring 79.33 points, landing a crow 540 and a H/S 720. In third, Luca Kidd (GBR) gave it everything he had through the chop, cranking a crow 540 and B/S 720 before topping it off with a T/S 900.

Guenther was the man to beat this season, also taking home the Nautique Wake Series overall Jr. Pro title, bringing a unique style mixed with technical perfection to the water at each event. Oka had back-to-back wins early in the season at the Nautique Moomba Masters and Nautique Wake Open before an uncharacteristic fall took him out of the Final at the Nautique WWA Wakeboard National Championships. This weekend, everything came together once again, keeping him on top of the standings.

“The Nautique Wake Series brings everyone together and the energy is just awesome. The wake behind the G23 is always perfect and I’m stoked to come out on top in 2017. I’ll see everyone next year in the Pro division!” said 2017 Nautique Wake Series Overall and World Champion Guenther Oka.

Reed Hansen (USA) kept it technical this weekend landing two shove variations and three different 360’s to take home his 7th Pro Wakeskate World title with a score of 87.33. Brian Grubb (USA) took second, scoring 79.33 with three stomped shove’s and a F/S 360. Finishing off the podium in third, Austin Polterock (USA) scored 73.33 with stylish 180’s and a B/S 360.

Also taking the Overall Nautique Wake Series Wakeskate title, Reed kept it on the podium all season long, taking a third at the Nautique Wake Open, a first at the Nautique WWA National Championships on his way to sealing the overall win with a World title.

“Grubb came out and took the win last year here at World’s and I knew with all of these guys riding hard I had to bring it for the title. I’m proud to also take the overall title this year, it’s been a great season! Thank you to everyone that made this happen and I’m looking forward to the next one!” – said Reed Hansen.

“We are incredibly proud to have such a great turnout of spectators and competitors here in Toronto for the Nautique WWA Wakeboard Worlds,” said Nautique President Greg Meloon “The G23 formed up perfect wakes and the best riders in the world didn’t disappoint. Congratulations to all the 2017 World Champions!”
